INTERVJUN MED BENDTNER

Här är den, kära läsare, efter viss fördröjning!
Intervjun med den danska supertalangen Nicklas Bendtner, Arsenal FC.

Skön fylla
Nicklas Bendtner

First of all, thank you for letting us ask you some questions. Generally you seem to be quite shy of the public media while at the same time generous to smaller medias (like us)? Does this relate to the type of articles produced? Here refering to the big media - big headlines?

There's definetely a big difference in substance between small papers and the larger ones, and its quite natural, come to think of it. Bigger medias has more space to fill and sometimes, not always, its filled with crap. Smaller medias has a way of making the news a bit more factual and related to football.

I (Grodan) am part Danish, but not many people know it because my general view is that danish people are idiots and therefore i keep it quiet. You have proven the opposite recently with some pretty nice "Utgångar" as we say in Sweden. Comparing Denmark to Sweden, what would you say is the difference in how we rock the party?

Not certain if i understood your question here but i will try to answer it correctly. Utgångar=Udganger?
It's hard for me to tell any difference since i dont really know any swedes or been in sweden that much, but in denmark its more about having a laugh with your friends than going out dancing in the clubs. There is a strong beer culture in denmark and a lot of us enjoys a beer or ten at the pub more than picking up chicks at the clubs.

You have received a lot of critisism this season for your supposed inability to score. How has this affected your playing? And has this also affected your style of play?

I would be lying if i said this season havent been hard on me. But everyone receives critisism in their daily work wether you are a politician or a garbage man.
What i'm trying to say is that all critisism isn't true and as a professional player, you have to be able to sort out what part of your game should be critisised and improved, and what not. Having good teammates and the trust of your coaches helps you a lot with this.
I wouldnt say my style of play has been affected, although this is something i have thought about a couple of times. But in the end it's very simple. If you get the clear cut chances, you will eventually score and it will become natural. Im not there yet but its just a matter of time.

In festkommitén, we like players who are capable of playing in all aspects of the game, with qualities in both physics, mentality as well as technique. One could say that, while possesing all these qualities, your main strenghts are in the first two, but would you reckon that you, in such a branded technical team as arsenal, will develop more and more technical abilities?

This is really hard for anyone to tell really. I probably wont be able to do what some of the most technical players can do, but thats also because thats not my style of play. A player, however good he is, cannot be the best in everything, and we all have to make our choices concerning what to focus your training on.
As for me, i find that my current style of play suits me best and therefore, i train specifically for the purpose of improving my traits. Though, obviously, i will be learning about football for as long as i will live and my technical skills is not an exception.

Led through the seasons by such a legend that Arsene Wengér actually is, can you describe how it is to come to Arsenal as a youth and play your way into the squad with him as coach?

I think what seperates Arsene from other coaches is the ability to make every youngster feel that he has just as much to contribute to the team as the guy next to him with 10 premier league seasons and 100 caps.
Todays football is all about numbers, ages and whatnot, and i think Arsene is a contrast to that. He makes football simple, like in the brazilian favellas. If you have a ball, it doesnt matter if you are young or old, colored or white. As long as you believe in yourself as a good player, you have come a long way. That's what Arsene gives us young players.

In the mid 90s, the Danish national team was a weapon of mass destruction with the Laudrup brothers as the ignition.
Since then, very few top-class players have been exported from Denmark, noticing maybe Gravesen and Tomasson as the brightest shining stars. What has caused this decrease in quality in Denmark as a footballing nation?

One would have to aspect that Denmark is a small country, and therefore it is only natural that a nation wont hold it standards for a long time. There's a lot of examples of small nations gaining unbelievable succes for a short period of time, just to fade out a decade later.
If a small country produces 3-4 top players, this will be the highlight of maybe 20-30 years waiting time. I dont know how to explain my thoughts better but i hope you understand where im going at.
